Upcoming Transfer Workshop offered at key time

On Wednesday, November 2nd STARS will be cooperating with PSU to present our annual Transfer Workshop.  The event will take place in the Oak Room from 12:00-1:00, and will also be taking place at an important time for those considering graduation in May and transfer next fall.  The workshop will provide a number of resources valuable to these students, as well as information specific to PSU's transfer requirements and scholarship opportunities.

Though it may seem early, it is already time for sophomores to begin consideration for admission application to four-year colleges.

Why do I need to apply so soon?
There are several reasons for this, but foremost is because the admissions process can be mroe competitive and an earlier application will make for a smoother transition.  Also, it is important to keep in mind that scholarship and FAFSA deadlines for 4-year colleges are often earlier (February and March, depending on the institution) than at the community college level.  So, it becomes important to start the transfer process early on.  Get admitted and claim your money!

How much does it cost to apply?
Unfortunately, applying for admission typically involves a processing fee which can often range anywhere from $25-$45.  Thankfully though, some area institutions offer application fee waivers (free applications!) to students in TRiO Student Support Services projects (likes STARS).  This allows you to apply for admission and start the process without paying a penny up front.  Remember, applying for admission in no way obligates you to attend!

So how do I get a fee waiver?
If you are planning to attend Kansas University or Pittsburg State, forms are available in the CAVE outside my office.  If you are planning to attend Emporia State or Kansas State, I must submit a letter of verification to the Admissions Office on your behalf.  Please meet with me individually if you are interested.

I am still looking into opportunities at other schools and will pass along more information as it becomes available.  Let me know if you have any questions about application fee waivers elsewhere!

The transfer process can be long and challenging and doesn't lend itself well to last minute decisions.  Plan ahead though, and the process can be positive!
